Right now, it is reported that Poland is forging an agreement with Philippines authorities so that Filipino workers may able to work in the said European country. According to Deputy Labor Minister Stanislaw Szwed, they are hoping to have an agreement with the Philippines by September this year. The country is particularly looking to attract qualified workers in the Information Technology (IT), medical and construction sectors. According to some analyst, the country will be short for at least four million workers by 2030 and this is already hurting the economy. The labor shortage in Poland is due to the continued emigration of its own workforce to other European Countries. He added that Poland and the Philippines shared many cultural values because both are Roman Catholic Countries. Currently, Poland depends on its neighbor Ukraine to fill the gap in the employment. Meanwhile, Japan is also facing a labor shortage and plans to accept more foreign workers to lessen the effect on the economy. Aside from this, the country is considering a major policy change for its non-Japanese workers. With this Prime Minister, Shinzo Abe instructed Cabinet ministers to make amendments for Japan to accept more foreign workers by offering a new residential status starting April next year. Currently, only foreign nationals working in the sector of education, business management, law and health care are the only one given with residential status. As of October 2017, foreign workers in Japan reached 1.28 million. China takes the largest part or about 30 percent followed by Vietnam, Philippines, and Brazil.

Another four countries in Europe will soon to hire Filipino workers and possibly be the next destination for Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs). According to reports, there is great demand for Filipino workers in Czech Republic, Poland, Germany, and Austria. Some representatives of Philippine Association of Service Exporters Inc. (PASEI) will go to the aforementioned four countries in Europe to discuss the possible opportunities for OFWs. Four countries primarily need healthcare professionals such as nurses and caregivers according to PASEI President Elsa Villa. She added they have an aging society where special care is needed. Villa said infrastructure project in Poland needs a lot of carpenters and construction workers. "They have many craftsmen who are skilled but they tend to leave the country. There are no workers for many projects in Poland," Villa said. On the other hand, Czech Republic is in need of IT professionals and transportation experts. With this PASEI is hoping for a positive outcome of their talks with representatives of four European countries. Bernard Olalia, the administrator of the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA), said that there must be a bilateral agreement between the Philippines and the said countries if there are a large-scale deployment of OFWs. This is to ensure the safety of Filipinos in the above-mentioned countries. It is earlier reported that more than 300 skilled workers are now needed in Prague, capital of Czech Republic, for the next three months. According to Abs-Cbn Report, applicants are not required to have college degrees and only need to have basic knowledge of electronics, information technology, and other related technical jobs. Prague is looking to hire 1,000 Filipinos by the end of 2018.

The main reason why Overseas Filipino Workers (OFW) choose to work abroad so that they can provide the needs and even wants of their loved-ones back home. Our family is always on the top of our priorities. But as OFWs, working for them is not enough, we should also secure their future just in case we fall ill or get into an accident while working in other countries. Have you ever ask that question to yourself? What will happen to my family if I get sick or If I got into situations that I can no longer work?
