Meet the 39-Year-old Mother Of 42 Children


Mariam Nabatanzi, 39, has 42 children with six sets of twins, four sets of triplets and five sets of quadruplets - including four babies who tragically did not survive - due to unusually large ovaries, she gave birth to twins a year after she was married off at the age of 12. Five more sets of twins followed - along with four sets of triplets and five sets of quadruplets. Three years ago, however, the 39-year-old Ugandan was abandoned by her husband, leaving her to support their surviving 38 children alone.



Mariam Nabatanzi, 39, has 42 children with six sets of twins, four sets of triplets and five sets of quadruplets - including four babies who tragically did not survive - due to unusually large ovaries, she gave birth to twins a year after she was married off at the age of 12. More sets of twins came thereafter. she said she never took any birth control method after her first try where she experienced abnormal bleeding as she literally dripping with blood. Nabatanzi said she never again tried any family planning method. Her husband works in another place and when he comes home and he wanted intercourse, they do not use anything to protect her from being pregnant again.    She said he had given birth for a total of 15 times already at the age of 39. Nabatanzi said that she had been physically abused in the past during her pregnancy. Her husband left her and now she has to work for them doing multiple jobs to sustain all of them. She is working as a tailor, a herbalist, and a hairdresser.    Doctors said that Nabatanzi's condition is called hyperovulation.  Hyperovulation is the tendency to release multiple eggs during ovulation. Non-identical twins occur once in approximately every 100 live births and inheritance is a more likely factor in conceiving them than it is in identical twinning. She said no matter what, she will not abandon her children because she loves all of them.
