GOOD News!!! No More GAMCA

Good news for OFWs. As of today the the Supreme Court of the Philippines has permanently suspended the decking in pre-employment medical examinations of OFWs bound for Middle East. That means no more monopoly in medical examination for GCC bound OFWs. And OFWs can now choose the clinic where they can secure medical certificate, specially those from provinces who used to travel to Metro Manila before just to get to GAMCA accredited clinic.

As amended, DOH will now regulate the activities and operations of all clinics that will conduct required medical examination of OFWs.  Now, every Filipino shall have the freedom to choose any DOH-accredited or DOH-operated clinics for their medical examination and his/her rights as patient shall be respected.

Decking is a practice where an OFW is required to register for a pre-employment medical exam with a group of medical clinic. The OFW/s will then be assigned a clinic from this group where he/she can have medical examination. The GCC states- Saudi Arabia, Oman, Qatar, Kuwait, UAE and Bahrain strictly adhere to this decking policy that they would not process the visa if the medical certificate does not bear the seal of GAMCA. This decking practise was believed to be effective way of preventing alien workers who are suffering from communicable diseases from entering these GCC countries.

But because the GAMCA is the sole accredited medical group, they have monopoly when it comes to conducting medical examinations for OFWs bound to GCC countries. And because their clinics are mostly located within Metro Manila, applicants from provinces were forced to travel and incur more expenses to comply with the medical requirements for employment.
