OFW In Kuwait Who Killed Herself Days Before The New Year Turned Out To Be A TV Personality's Sibling

A TV comedian Super Tekla (Romeo Librada in real life) is appealing to the personnel of Philippine Embassy in Kuwait to help investigate the death of his sister, an OFW who allegedly hanged herself to death days before the new year.
Although it appears to be more likely a suicide based on the last post she did on her social media account seemingly saying her last goodbye on December 29. On her post, she was wearing the same red shirt when she was found hanging on her room the next day, Librada still wanted the Philippine Embassy to investigate.


He said he is hoping that the Embassy will look into his sister's case and that of other abused OFWs as well to prevent further cases where deaths are made to look like suicides. However, should the findings of the investigation say that it's indeed a suicide, Librada said they will accept it.Sponsored Links



Librada or Tekla is currently in Canada as he made a live video urging his viewers to share it to heighten awareness on the continued abuse of OFWs.
According to GMA News Online report, they contacted Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III and said the Philippine Embassy in Kuwait will help in the investigation but he did not further elaborate about the details.

Remains of OFW In Alleged Suicide in Saudi Arabia Arrived Home

But this sad thing is happening to some of our "modern day heroes", just like Jenny Reyes, the OFW who work abroad to help her husband and children but died too soon. Her grieving family welcomes her remains that arrived in the Philippines last October 11.

 Jenny took suicide last May 28, 2017, according to her employer. She fell from the seventh floor flat of her employer in Jeddah. Jenny had been working in Saudi Arabia for only two weeks when the incident happened.

According to his husband, John Paul Reyes, that until now, they don't believe his wife committed suicide because her things fell with her from the seventh floor.

"Feeling po namin patay na po siya, hinulog po siya dun kasi sabi ng mga kalapit kwarto niya dun may naamoy na daw po sila sa labas ng bahay na may kakaiba daw po," Reyes said.

 But according to Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) Administrator Hans Cacdac, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) has ruled out the possibility of foul play in Jenny's death.

He said the family can request for the autopsy to the remains to know the reason of her death.

With this, Cacdac said, the family can file a case against Jenny's employer and her employment agency and they can tap the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI).

OWWA already gave assistance to the family of the victim but they are hoping the agency would help in the investigation.

In GMA's News dated June 28, 2017, it was stated that the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) has ordered the Philippine Embassy in Riyadh to conduct its own investigation into Jenny's death.

"Embassy lawyers are now investigating the case with police and forensic investigators and looking into all angles of the case," the DFA stated.

Phil. Embassy Warns Filipinos Seeking Employment in Russia


Seeing job vacancies in Russia in social media? Be careful. The Philippine embassy in Russia has warned Filipinos not to be a victim of alleged job hiring for domestic helpers in Russia because there is not visa category for the said job. There are more than 5,000 Filipinos who are living and working in the household service sector in Russia.



 Seeing job vacancies in Russia in social media? or working invitation from a friend or relatives that are already working in Russia? Be careful. The Philippine embassy in Russia has warned Filipinos not to be a victim of alleged job hiring for domestic helpers in Russia because there is not visa category for the said job.

There are more than 5,000 Filipinos who are living and working in the household service sector in Russia.



Despite the lack of visa category in the said job, there are Filipinos who invite their relatives or fellow Filipinos to try their luck in Russia. Most of them are from Hong Kong.

Because of much desire to go to Russia, many of them are unaware that they are already a victim of illegal recruitment.

 There are also report about Filipinos being caught in the said country.



As of now, the Philippine embassy is coordinating in Russian authorities to stop illegal entry of Filipinos to Russia to work as domestic helpers.

Just last week, together with embassy staff, around 20 Filipinos return to the Philippines from Russia due to lack of pertaining documents.

PRIVATE HEALTH INSURANCE COVERAGE FOR HOUSEHOLD SERVICE WORKERS (HSW) IN KSA
According to statistics,there are  more than 20,000 Filipino Household Service Workers (HSW) presently deployed in Saudi Arabia.It is almost half of the deployed household service workers in the world.With an average salary of $400 (some even less) per month as per POEA standard,this sector are the most vulnerable and prone to abuse and maltreatment.

 According to statistics,roughly 70% of Filipino HSWs suffer abuse in Saudi Arabia both psychologically and physically.There are numerous reports of abuse forwarded to the Philippine Embassy and Philippine Overseas Labor Office of the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (POLO-OWWA) almost everyday.Some of them had already ran away from their employers and now staying at the shelter hoping they can finally go back home.
On the other hand,General Committee of Insurance Companies in Saudi spokesperson Adel Al-Issa said that the Ministry of Labor  and the Saudi Arabian Monetary Agency (SAMA) will be discussing relevant action and look into providing hazard and medical insurance to all the HSWs in the Kingdom. He said that the pricelist for the HSWs insurances will be determined after completion of the listing of the total number of the beneficiaries adding that gathering of data and information is not easy.

 According to Abdulaziz Abu Saud,an insurance specialist,problems like physical violence by the employer,inadequate performance of the HSW during the 3 month probation period,deportation or running away of the HSW,and acquired permanent disabilities while on duty will also be covered by the insurance aside from medical and hazard coverage.He also stressed that they will help the HSWs to be fully aware of their rights regarding the said health insurance policy.

 This is somewhat a good news for the HSWs to have their own private health insurance but the best move in,my opinion, is to put an end to the growing terror of abuse and maltreatment by providing them the assurance of their safety clearly stated on their contracts and strict implementation of it,penalizing those who will do otherwise.

China's plans to hire Filipino household workers to their five major cities including Beijing and Shanghai, was reported at a local newspaper Philippine Star. it could be a big break for the household workers who are trying their luck in finding greener pastures by working overseas China is offering up to P100,000 a month, or about HK$15,000. The existing minimum allowable wage for a foreign domestic helper in Hong Kong is around HK$4,310 per month.
