Complete List of 66 Countries Where Philippine Passport Holder Can Travel Visa-Free this 2018

Are you a Philippine passport holder? Is yes, you can now visit 66 international destinations this year visa-free! With this, the Philippine passport is now the seventh strongest in Southeast Asia. This was after three more countries and territories gave the Philippines visa-free access raising the number of countries that offer visa-free access to the Philippines to 66.

This includes China, Taiwan, and South Korea.

China offered visa-free travel to Hainan to 59 countries, including the Philippines, in April, while visa-free access to Taiwan was offered beginning November 2017.

South Korea temporarily opened its borders for visa-free travel to the Philippines until April 2018 due to the 2018 Winter Olympics.

This is based on 2018 Henley Passport Index that looked into the travel freedom of countries based on an authoritative database of travel information.

Meanwhile, Japan unseated Singapore on the top ranking in the passport index. Japan gain visa-free access to 189 countries while Singapore — 188. Third on the rank are South Korea, Finland, France, Italy, Spain, and Sweden with visa-free access to 187 countries; Austria, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, the United Kingdom, and the United States followed in fourth place at 186 countries.

The lowest ranked passport globally are Afghanistan and Iraq with 30 countries.

You Can Now Apply for UAE Visas Online

Good news for GCC Nationals and residents alike! From now on, you can make applications related to nationality and residence, without having to visit typing offices or customer service centers. With the newly-launched "e-channels", nationals and residents can apply for entry permits and residency visas within 10 minutes from the comfort of their homes. People don’t need to physically visit different visa agencies or centers in the UAE. Anyone can register at https://echannels.moi.gov.ae and select the services required and allowed for them. Individuals will need an email ID and password to register and log into the system. For example, if you have selected an individual service, you have to simply type in your email id. Immediately, a reply will be sent to you via a link. click on the Register button and obtain login details to access the new system. What are the processes that can be done? Emiratis can apply to sponsor individuals. Residents can apply for new visas, or renew or cancel existing ones. They can also follow up on applications and print visas. Similarly, GCC nationals can apply to sponsor individuals and GCC residents can apply for new visa permit. Visitors can also apply for new visa permit. Companies can submit visa applications for their employees without having to visit General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs centers. The new system connects government entities involved in providing residency and visa services and offers first-time benefits in terms of similar procedures, with the ability to read official documents electronically, using face recognition technology to identify the applicants, handle routine requests as well as auditing, accounting, governance, protection and quality control, all without human intervention as per international standards. An automated payment facility integrated with the system through payment gateway Amwal is provided to the external partners of the ministry who provide the services. The new system will help with financial transparency and facilitate payments via IBAN details. Residents can also get back their security deposit and transaction fees through the same channel without furnishing extra documents. Even fines can be paid through the same system. According to the estimates of e-transaction experts, the ministry said that a transaction should not take longer than 10 minutes, depending on the speed of data entry by the applicant. They estimate that said that the new system will reduce the rush at government centers by 80% in 2018.

President Duterte Signs Laws Extending Passport and Driver License Validity

President Rodrigo Duterte signed into law on Wednesday Republic Act 10928 extending the validity of Philippine passports to 10 years. The new law states that “Regular passports under this act shall be valid for a period of 10 years. Provided, however, that for individuals under 18 years of age, only a passport with five-year validity shall be issued.” Republic Act 10928 amends Republic Act 8239 or the Philippine Passport Act of 1996. The new law also states that the issuing authority may limit the validity to less than 10 years in cases where national economic interest or political stability is at stake. But do not get excited that the Department of Foreign Affairs will issue passports with longer validities soon. The DFA has to prepare the implementing rules and regulations of RA 10928 first, to ensure that its provisions will be implemented. The President also signed Republic Act 10930, which extends the length of the driver's license’s validity to 5 years. The law amends Section 23 of RA 4136 or the Land Transportation and Traffic Code, which set a three-year validity for the license. “Except for student permits, all drivers’ licenses shall be valid for five years reckoned from the birth date of the licensee, unless sooner revoked or suspended,” the new law says. Under the law's Section 23, a driver holding a license with a 5-year validity may even be granted a license with a 10-year validity upon renewal if found that he or she has “not committed any violation of RA 4136 and other traffic laws, rules and regulations.” The law also mandates the establishment of stricter rules before the issuance of driver’s licenses. A fine of P20,000 shall be imposed on a driver’s license applicant if found to have misrepresented material information in his or her application, connived with the officer in the irregular conduct of examinations or issuance of license, falsified documents, or cheated during examinations. Both laws will be enforced and take effect take effect 15 days after publication in the Official Gazette or in a newspaper of general circulation. The DFA and LTO will now write and publish the implementing rules and regulations for each of their jurisdictions.

You and Your Friends Could Be Stranded in the UAE as Government Halts Issuance of 90-Day Visit Visa

Philippines and Pakistan passport holders especially who are in the UAE are in risk of being stranded due to the halt of 90-days Visa issuance by the UAE government.

There are also growing concerns on the welfare of those who already were on their visa run waiting for the release of their 90-day visit visas. There are no official numbers yet but a lot of Filipinos has been rushing to exit UAE everyday for their visa runs.

Consul General Paul Raymund Cortes also confirmed about the halt of 90-day Visa processing and he said he also has no knowledge on the reason why they stopped it.

The Filipino Times visited various travel agencies whom also confirmed that the rule has been made effective starting June 1, 2017.

Malou Q. Prado, CEO of MPQ Tourism said that starting the night before, the system won't accept the processing of 90-day Visas.

As to why it only singled out Filipino and Pakistani nationals, they are also puzzled. They said that it should affect all expats.
Karen Versoza, agent at Zomorod Travel Agency, said that the visa issuance is now limited to only a month.

She also said that the Immigration has announced the halt of 90-day Visa issuance to be effective last May 1, 2017 but it did not happen.
We did our own research from a certain travel agency who requested to withhold their identity and they said some of the agents can still apply but as to the guidelines of the rule, it still needs to be clarified in the coming days.
Prado said a remedy for those who already applied for the 90-day Visa is to change the application to Leisure Visa or to a month’s visit visa.
