Will Pres. Duterte Shut Down Recruitment Agencies?

In a speech during a program appreciating the overseas Filipino workers (OFW), President Rodrigo Duterte said that he wants the department of OFWs to be hastened , thus, he certified it as urgent expecting it to be in place before the year ends.

However, Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello clarified President Rodrigo Duterte’s statement on prohibiting agencies from recruiting Filipinos to become Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) due to repeated cases of abuse.      Bello said in an interview with GMA News that the government will not order the shut down of recruitment agencies. Instead the recruitment activities being conducted by the recruitment agencies will be subjected to scrutiny. Bello added that he also talked with Senator Bong about making a law that will not only treat the OFWs but also the labor sector which described by Bello as "having too much responsibility but without powers."
