CHED Scholarships For College Students

Poverty is not a hindrance to success. A very common quote when it comes to education. But in a reality, it is really difficult to go to school when you are poor and underprivileged since tuition and other school fees are increasing year per year aside from growing cost of living.

But if a person is really working hard to earn a degree, nothing is impossible, since education is the best investment for the future. Also, take note that the Free Education Act is already into law, so students in states universities and colleges can now enjoy free tuition from the government.

And the good thing for those who strive is that there are many scholarship programs now from the government where they can get educational assistance, if not free education.

The following are scholarship from CHED;

A. Full Scholarship (FS) or the State Scholarship Program (SSP)

Who are qualified?

• High school graduated with general weighted average (GWA) of at least 90% or its equivalent
• Graduating high school student with GWA is at least 90% its equivalent in the third year and at least 90% in the first three grading periods of the fourth year

They will enroll in identified priority courses in duly authorized public or private higher education institutions (HEIs).

B. Partial Scholarship (PS) or the Private Education Student Financial Assistance (PESFA) Scholarship

Who are qualified?

• High school graduates whose GWA is at least 85% or its equivalent
• Graduating high school students whose GWA is at least 85% or its equivalent in the third year and at least 85% in the first three grading periods of the fourth year

They will enroll in identified priority courses in duly authorized public or private HEIs.

The CHED has a Grant-In-Aid (GIA) Program (Tulong Dunong)

Who are qualified?

• High school graduates whose GWA is at least a passing grade and for graduating high school students whose GWA is at least a passing grade in the third year and in the first three grading periods of the fourth year and who will enroll in identified priority courses in duly authorized public or private HEIs.
• Students with earned units in college – whose weighted average is at least a passing grade for the last two (2) semesters and enrolled in identified priority courses in duly authorized public or private HEIs.
• Students who passed the Alternative Learning System (ALS) and Philippine Educational Placement Test (PEPT).

Study Now Pay Later Plan (SNPLP)

This loan program is intended to provide financial assistance to deserving students who are enrolled or to enroll in any curriculum year level in identified priority courses in duly authorized private HEIs.

Overall Guidelines/Qualifications

• Must be a Filipino citizen
• Must be a high school graduate; candidate for graduation; with earned units in college; passer of ALS/PEPT
• Must have a combined annual gross income of parents/guardian not to exceed P300,000.00
• Must avail of only one CHED scholarship or financial assistance program; and
• Must not be a graduate of any degree program.

StuFAPs Committee shall determine the merits of the application.

Academic Requirements for Application

A. For incoming freshmen

• For fourth year high school applicants: third year grades and first three grading periods of fourth year
• For high school graduates fourth year report card (form 138)

B. For applicants with earned units in college

• Certificate of grades in all subjects in completed semesters

C. For other applicants

• ALS – Accreditation and Equivalency Test Passer Certificate
• PEPT – Certificate of Advancing to the Next Level

Additional Requirements

1. Any one of the following:

• Latest Income Tax Return (ITR) of parents or guardian
• Certificate of Tax Exemption from the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR)
• Certificate of Indigency from their Barangay
• Case Study from Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), or Affidavit of No Income

For children of Overseas Filipino Workers (OFW) and seafarers, a latest copy of contract or proof of income may be considered.

2. Certificate of good moral character from the last school attended.

Student applicants should submit the accomplished CHED StuFAPs Application (StuFAPs Form 1) directly to the CHED Regional Office concerned.

However, applicants who intend to enroll in State Universities and Colleges (SUCs) shall directly submit their StuFAPs Form 1 to the concerned SUCs as stipulated in the Calendar of Activities (Annex A).

Financial Benefits

The package of financial assistance to scholars/grantees/borrowers shall cover the completion of the degree program. The financial benefits per academic year (AY) are as follows:

1. State Scholarship Program

• Full Scholar -  P30,000
• Partial Scholar (PESFA) - P15,000

2. Grants-in-Aid (Tulong Dunong) - P6,000

3. Study Now Pay Later Plan - P15,000

Modes of Payment

The release of financial benefits shall be as follows:

• Mode 1 – CHEDROs release financial benefits directly to scholars/grantees / borrowers;
• Mode 2 – CHEDROs transfer financial benefits to scholars/grantees / borrowers through HEIs with ten (10) or more beneficiaries; and
• Mode 3 – CHEDROs transfer financial benefits to scholars/grantees / borrowers through authorized banks.

You can now apply CHED scholarship for SY 2017-2018

Want's to pursue college but lacking financial resources, the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) is now accepting applications for scholarships under State Scholarship Program for the coming academic year 2017-2018.

Under the Scholarship Program, applicants may be qualified as a full scholar, partial scholar, or PESFA scholar.

• Full Scholarship (FS) - Intended for high school graduate whose General Weighted Average (GWA) is 90% or its equivalent in the third year and at least 90% in the first three grading periods of the fourth year, who will enroll in identified priority courses in duly authorized public or private (higher education institutions) HEIs.

Full scholars will receive financial assistance worth PhP30,000.

• Partial Scholarship (PS) - Intended for high school graduates whose GWA is at least 85% or its equivalent and for graduating high school students whose GWA is at least 85% in the third year and at least 85% in the first three grading periods of the fourth year, who will enroll in identified priority courses in duly authorized public or private HEIs.

Partial scholars are set to receive PhP15,000 per academic year.

• Private Education Student Financial Assistance (PESFA) - Intended for high school graduates whose GWA is at least 85% or its equivalent and for graduating high school student whose GWA is at least 85% in the first three grading periods of the fourth year, who will enroll in identified priority courses in duty authorized private HEIs.

PESFA scholars will receive PhP15,000.

To be accepted into the program, the applicant should either of the following;

1. high school graduate

2. candidate for graduation

3. earned unit in college

4. passer of Alternative Learning System or Philippine Educational Placement Test.

Since the program is merit-based, CHED will consider the academic performance of the applicant. Aside from this, he or she will have to submit the annual gross income of his or her parents/guardians.

4 easy steps to avail CHED scholarship program

I. Check if you are qualified and complete all the requirements

GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS

• Must be a Filipino citizen
• Must be a high school graduate; candidate for graduation; with earned units in college; passer of Alternative Learning System (ALS) / Philippine Educational Placement Test (PEPT)
• Must have a combined annual gross income of parents/guardian not to exceed Three Hundred Thousand Pesos (PhP 300,000.00)
• Must avail of only one CHED scholarship or financial assistance program; and
• Must not be a graduate of any degree program.

DOCUMENTARY REQUIREMENTS

For Incoming Freshmen:

• For 4th year HS applicants – 3rd-year grade and first three grading periods of the fourth year
• For high school graduates – Form 138
• For Applicants with Earned Units in College – Certificate of grades in all subjects in completed semesters

Other Applicants

• ALS – Accreditation and Equivalency Test Passer Certificate
• PEPT – Certificate of Advancing to the Next Level

OTHER REQUIREMENTS
