If you are a woman and you are in Saudi Arabia, showing an inch of flesh is a criminal act.

Saudi Arabia is one of few countries in the world with the extremely strict dress code. In the Kingdom, it does not matter whether you are a local citizen or a foreigner because both of you must follow the Saudi Arabia's dress code that is governed by Sharia Law.

For Saudi, it is unacceptable for their locals to disregard the dress code and while expats are given an amount of freedom especially within their compounds, they are expected to follow the dress code when out in public.

It is the law in Saudi Arabia for expat women to wear an abaya when they are out in public. The abaya should cover their everyday clothing.

But what happens if you ignore dress code of in the Kingdom?

This July a video of a young woman wearing miniskirt and crop top in public went viral and sparks debate in Saudi.

The woman, a model called "Khulood", is seen walking along an empty street in a fort at Ushayqir Heritage Village, north of the capital Riyadh, in Najd province.

The footage sparked a heated debate on social media, with some calling for her arrest for breaking the conservative Muslim country's strict dress code, there are Saudis defending her and praising her "bravery"

Indeed the young woman was detained and questioned but released without charges.

According to the public prosecutor, the model admitted walking through the site with her hair uncovered and wearing a skirt.

But there is no restriction on what women can wear under their abayas.

According to the ministry, the young woman did not know that her video had been uploaded.

As of the moment, the public prosecutor closed the case.

In December 2013, another Saudi Arabia woman was also arrested and lashed for not wearing hijab.

Malak Al Shehri shared picture of herself without a hijab on and it went viral

She was detained and faced lashing.

In 2015, the Ministry of Labor introduces a fine of SR1,000 on women who are not following the Islamic dress code in their workplace.

To sum up, three things may happen to you if you choose not to follow Saudi Arabia dress code while you are in the Kingdom.
