Around 100,000 passport appointment slots for February to May is now open starting Tuesday, January 23, 2018, around 1:00 pm. SAUDI GOV'T TO COMPANIES: RETURN PASSPORT OF EMPLOYEES WITHIN ONE MONTH OR BE PENALIZED



OFWs and other expats have a reason to rejoice, for finally, their passport will be given to them, as LABOR MINISTRY of SAUDI ARABIA warned employers to return non-Saudi passport within one month or face penalties.

The government of Saudi Arabia through the Ministry of Labour and Social Development has reportedly given employers one month to return passports to their employees.

In a report by the Saudi Gazette, the country’s Council of Ministers first banned employers from keeping passports severals years ago.

Also, a couple of years ago, former Philippine Ambassador to Saudi Arabia inform Filipino Overseas Workers to report to labor department if their employers are keeping their passport from them

The KSA Ministry of Labor will also penalized employees with a fine of SAR2,000 if they keep their employees passport or fail to return them. Accordingly, reports says that the Labor Ministry and Social Development is giving EMPLOYERS ONE MONTH deadline to return the passports of their employees.

 Previous posts about this generated a lot of comments that their employers are still keeping their passports and do not follow the Labor Ministry order. 


This is good news to many Filipinos, OFWs based in Saudi Arabia especially those working as household service workers.Some employers are keeping their passport so they cannot escape from maltreatment and abused. Some are simply keeping their passport so they will be hold hostage, especially if employers are not following rules and regulations agreed especially when it comes to salary, day-off and unfit labor practices.

Quoting the Secretary General of National Society for Human Rights Khalid Al-Fakhiri said that holding an employee’s passport is a form of human trafficking. “What binds the employer and the employee is the contract. The passport is a personal document. No one has the right to take it because it becomes a crime of abuse and denial of rights,” as reported in Saudi Gazette.

DFA PUBLIC ADVISORY: NO APPOINTMENT FOR OFWS AND SEAFARERS PASSPORT APPLICATION AT DFA ROBINSONS GALLERIA

According to the DFA PUBLIC ADVISORY, there is no need for OFWs and SEAFARERS TO SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT FOR PASSPORT APPLICATION AT DFA NCR CENTRAL (ROBINSONS GALLERIA)

 The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) wishes to remind the public that Filipinos who are currently employed overseas (land-based OFWs) and seaman's or those working as seafarers DO NOT NEED TO SECURE an ONLINE APPOINTMENT in order to process their passport application.

 Land-based OFWs and seafarers must file their passport application within 12 months of their arrical in the Philippines.
 





What are the REQUIREMENTS?
LAND-BASED OFWs
1) Philippine Passport
2. Proof of Overseas Employment
3. Valid Philippines Government Issued IDs
4. Bring NSO copied Birth Certificate in case they will ask for additional documents

SEAMAN/SEAFARERS

1) Philippine Passport
2. Valid Seaman's Book
3. SRC ID
4. Valid Philippine Government Issued IDs
5. Bring NSO copied Birth Certificate in case they will ask for additional documents

DFA NCR Central or Robinsons Galleria is the dedicated OFW PASSPORT RENEWAL CENTER. 
Processing applications for all OFW walk-in applicants is from 8:00AM to 12:00 Noon. Queuing before 6AM is unnecessary and is not advisable.

PASSPORT PROCESSING FOR OFWS: 30 MINUTES, RELEASING SHORTER TIME

Good news everyday here in the Philippines! 

Last August 15, Filipino's had a glimpse of the new "high security passport", and is now available to all especially to those who wished to work or travel abroad, according to Malacanang. 

Presidential Communications Secretary Martin Andanar announces the printing of new passports starting August 15. The new passports have an improved design that features the regions of the country and an upgraded microchip security feature to capture the personal data of the applicant, invisible UV fluorescent ink and thread, and elaborate design when subject to UV light.
The APO Production Unit is tasked to produce the Philippine passports, and is a government owned and controlled corporation under the Presidential Communications Office.

The new passport that contains "intaglio printing" most commonly used in printing money or currency so it will not be faked and the "printing of the coat of arms using optical variable illusion ink where color varies at different angle” can now be claimed by applicants for only 5 days. 

Each passport is also added with security features like a microchip that contains personal data of the applicant or the passport holder, with an invisible UV fluorescent ink and thread and an elaborate design when placed in UV light.

“The new APO printing system increases the production speed of the new passports to 35%, this means the new passport printing system results to delivery of passports from press to the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) to an average of 5 days compared to 7-14 days previously”.

On the other news, the DFA branch at Ortigas, Robinson's Galleria will be converted to an OFW Branch starting October 2016. OFWs can process their passport renewal for 30 minutes to one day, according to reports and will be more faster once the branch is fully converted to cater solely for OFW services.
