Lola Emma Abucay Monta was able to buy the phone for her grandson by saving her earnings from selling vegetables every day. Her apo was overjoyed after receiving the gadget.

A fellow mall goer, John Mico Tan, saw them sitting together and poring over the phone while he was waiting for his order.

He decided to snap a photo and share it on social media, which touched the hearts of thousands of netizens. Upon visiting vendor Nanay Emma Abucay Monta this morning, the uploader learned that she made somewhere around P20 to P50 a day selling vegetables. She saved all her earnings just so she could afford the mobile phone she bought her apo.

Libreng bisikleta para kay Tatay Carlo!

Ayon sa may-ari ng isang bicycle shop sa Pasay City, araw-araw simula May 15 daw dumadaan ang isang matandang lalaki sa tindahan nila para magtanong kung may bisikleta na puwede bilhin, pero sold-out palagi ang mga ito.

Kahapon ay dumaan ulit si Tatay Carlo para tanungin kung puwede niya bilhin sa halagang P2,000 ang isang bagong bisikleta na P4,800-P4,500 ang presyo. Dahil naramdaman ng may-ari na kailangan talaga ni Tatay Carlo ang bisikleta at ipinakita pa ang naipon niyang pera, nagpasya siya na ibigay ito ng libre, kapalit ng ngiti ni tatay.

Napag-alaman nila na galing Nichols ay naglalakad raw papuntang Makati City si Tatay Carlo para magbenta ng kendi. Siya ay 82-anyos na raw.

Mensahe ng may-ari ng bicycle shop sa publiko: "Sa sobrang dami po na gusto tumulong kay Tatay, sigurado po ako na sobra-sobra po ang kanyang matatangap. Hindi n'yo na po kailangan lumayo para tulungan si Tatay Carlo, madami pong Tatay Carlo sa paligid nyo. Maaring bata po sya, babae, buntis etc. buksan n'yo lang po ang mga mata n'yo, tiyak po meron Tatay Carloo ng buhay n'yo."

Inspiring Stories OFWs Who Are Making Waves In The U.S.

Filipino workers are undeniably world-class and a lot of stories prove it. they excel in many fields whether it is about arts, science, music, sports, etc. We often hear about OFW stories that are sad and tragic. This time we are going to tackle stories that will make OFWs proud.

Filipina Physicist  from Washington State University (WSU) have found a possible way of making crystal-based computer memory known as "photoconductivity".

 Tarun's work has helped other WSU researchers develop a kind of rewritable crystal memory that, at least for now, can store data for up to a year.

Tarun, a postdoctoral research associate at WSU's Physics and Astronomy Department, made the discovery when she left a sample of strontium titanate—a crystal used in jewelry and some electronic components—out on a table counter before testing it for conductivity.
The heightened conductivity effect accidentally discovered by Tarun  has enabled the development of crystal memory that can store data at room temperature.Far better than the previous methods that requires heating of the crystals which only gives temporary effect. Now, they are able to make a memory chip that  can store a memory for at least a year unlike what they previously make which can fade within days.

Another inspiring story is from a hospital cleaner who inspires the sick  and in pain in the hospital where he is working by playing a soothing music for their weary soul.

Rolando Maaba, 55, works as a janitor at the Rockford Health Systems in Illinois. During his free time, he plays the piano at the lobby of the hospital. For him what he is doing is to make people relax while waiting for their hospitalized relative, giving them a sense of calm on their worrisome moments.

Maaba moved to Rockford in 1999 and started working at the hospital in 2013. The self-taught pianist started playing at the hospital by simply asking if he could. He spend his 15 minute break playing beautiful music for the hospital crowd ever since.

The exposure Maaba received from playing piano at the hospital led him to another music gig, playing the piano every Wednesday night at Francesca’s, a local restaurant who was impressed by his playing skills.

Another Filipino who make waves in the US is a teacher. He turns boring algebra into a fun learning experience for his students.
His name is Ramil Buenaventura, a Filipino math teacher for 7th and 8th grade at the Renaissance Charter School in Jackson Heights, New York. He has formulated a way to keep his class alive by integrating singing and games to make his student learn algebra while having fun.

His unorthodox way of teaching has drawn the attention of the New York City Department of Education and recognized his teaching excellence.

He was given the Big Apple Award in 2014, chosen from among three thousand nominees. It gave him the opportunity to speak with the other teachers, lawmakers and union leaders in New York to talk about the policies that will help improve teacher's teaching and learning development. He was also nominated as Homegrown Hero for Education by touching the lives of others inside and outside the classroom
Buenaventura hailed from Mandaluyong and moved to New York in 2003. 

OFWs are world class. 
They do not exist just to do  a good job but to set standards for others to follow. And that is enough reason to be proud.

Dominador Say, undersecretary of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), said that talks are underway with Chinese embassy officials on this possibility. China’s five major cities, including Beijing, Shanghai and Xiamen will soon be the destinfor Filipino domestic workers who are seeking higher income.

Smoking is only allowed in designated smoking areas to be provided by the owner of the establishment. Smoking in private vehicles parked in public areas is also prohibited.

Violators will be fined P500 to P10,000, depending on their number of offenses, while owners of establishments caught violating the EO will face a fine of P5,000 or imprisonment of not more than 30 days.

The Department of Health  urges all the establishments to post "no smoking" signs in compliance with the new executive order. They also appeal to the public to report any violation against the nationwide ban on smoking in public places.

Rebecca Bustamante Mills was a former OFW working as Domestic Helper in Singapore and Canada until her life changes through studies, dedication, and determination. She builds her company and is now the CEO an emerging company in Asia.

"The seventh of 11 siblings, Bustamante grew up in poverty. She was 18 when her mother died, forcing her to leave her hometown of Dasol, Pangasinan and work in a factory in Bataan to put her younger brothers and sisters through school. Their father had no steady job. Even when she was in high school, Bustamante worked to earn money for her schooling. “I used to work as a helper with different families in my hometown. From 11 in the evening to 1 a.m. [I would] start my job at 5 a.m. I was only given a day off. That one day off I would go to school to talk to my professors and get my whole month's worth of homework,” she said. “It was very hard, but I was determined to pursue my education to help my brothers and sisters back home.” To earn more money for her family, Bustamante then decided to work as a nanny in Canada for almost four years while pursuing her graduate studies in Accounting and Marketing at Ryerson University in Ontario. “Learning is very important to me,” she said. “If you want to be successful, it's important to continue learning, continue developing your skills.
