Converge Internet Provider Launched Faster Internet Cheaper Rate With No Data Cap

Internet has always been a concern of many in the Philippines. In this age of technology, one of the things that probably keeps the Philippines behind is the slow internet speed. Recently, an emerging internet company in the Philippines, named Converge ICT launched a broadband plan that is way cheaper and comparatively faster than its competitors. Converge ICT, whose connection is fiber-only released a broadband plan that is faster with NO data cap. Their entry-level plan can be subscribed to at only P 1,500.00, It offers a speed of 25 MBPS (megabits per second). This plan is already an upgrade from the previous 20 Mbps of P 1,500.00 per month. The subscribers of the old plan will also be receiving an upgrade of additional 5 Mbps. Internet has always been a concern of many in the Philippines. PLDT's rates for fiber connections (no data cap) are 5Mbps/P1699 a month , 20Mbps/P1899, and 50Mbps/P2899. Globe, on the other hand offers 10Mbps/P1299 a month plan capped at 50GB (LTE) or 100GB (DSL), and a 15Mbps/P1599 a month capped at 150GB. Skycable has 3Mbps/P999, 8Mbps/P1399, and 16Mbps/P1999 a month plans. If computed based on peso-per-Mbps basis, Converge's broadband plans are cheaper. While it seems that Converge is a better subscription, it has its disadvantage in terms of the coverage area. Right now, it can only serve most parts of Luzon including Metro Manila area up to Baguio (north) and up to Batangas (south). According to the Chief Operating Officer Jesus Romero, they plan to cover 100% of Luzon in three years. For this year, they are targeting to spend P 1.5 billion to expand its broadband network which currently has a reach of 4,800 km to 6,000 km by 2017. “Last year, we spent close to P1.5 billion -- that’s for the fiber access network, the backbone, because we’re modernizing it and our IT platform. This year, depending on how fast we can roll out, we’ll probably spend about the same,” Mr. Romero said when asked on their capital spending budget. FASTER INTERNET IN THE PHILIPPINES SOON THROUGH DUTERTE'S NATIONAL BROADBAND PLAN?

Good news to the Filipinos whose business and livelihood rely on good and fast internet connection such as stocks trading and online marketing. President Rodrigo Duterte has already approved the establishment of the National Government Portal and a National Broadband Plan during the 13th Cabinet Meeting in Malacañang today. In a facebook post of Agriculture Secretary Manny Piñol, he said that after a presentation made by Dept. of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) Secretary Rodolfo Salalima, Pres. Duterte emphasized the need for faster communications in the country. Pres. Duterte earlier said he would like the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) "to develop a national broadband plan to accelerate the deployment of fiber optics cables and wireless technologies to improve internet speed." As a response to the President's SONA statement, Salalima presented the DICT's national broadband plan that aims to push for free WiFi access to more areas in the countryside. The broadband program has been in the work since former President Gloria Arroyo but due to allegations of corruption and illegality, Mrs. Arroyo cancelled the US$329 million National Broadband Network (NBN) deal with China's ZTE Corp.just 6 months after she signed it in April 2007. Fast internet connection benefits not only those who are on internet business and online business but even our over 10 million OFWs around the world and their families in the Philippines. When the era of snail mails, voice tapes and telegram and the internet age started, communications with their loved one back home can be much easier.
