OFW sa Taiwan, Pinagmulta ng P170,000 sa Paglabag sa Covid-19 Quarantine sa Loob Lamang ng 8 Segundo




MANILA, Philippines — MULTANG nasa P170,000 ang ipinataw ng mga otoridad sa Taiwan sa isang Filipino migrant worker matapos itong nahuli sa surveillance camera na lumabag sa quarantine rules ng bansa sa loob ng walong segundo.

Ayon sa Central News Agency o CNA ng Taiwan, naka-quarantine ang nabanggit na lalaki sa isang hotel sa Kaohsiung nang saglit itong lumabas sa kanyang kwarto papuntang hallway.

May iniwan umano ito sa labas ng pinto ng kanyang  kaibigan na naka-quarantine din sa nasabing hotel.

Ayon sa ulat, isang paglabag sa mandatory na 14-day quarantine period ang ginawa ng nabanggit na Pinoy. Ang penalty sa nasabing paglabag ay mula NT$100,000 hanggang 1 million.

Nakita naman sa security camera ng hotel ang paglabas ng nabanggit na Pinoy na umabot lamang sa walong segundo. Agad itong inireport ng hotel staff sa Department of Health ng Taiwan dahilan upang pagmultahin ito ng 100,000 Taiwan dollars o nasa P170,000.

Sa ilalim ng quarantine rule ng Taiwan, mariing ipinagbabawal ang paglabas ng kwarto ng mga taong isinasailalim sa 14-day mandatory quarantine period, gaano man ka tagal.

Simula Nobyembre, umaabot na umano sa siyam ang bilang ng mga migrant workers sa Kaohsiung na lumabag sa quarantine rules.

Napag-alaman na isa ang bansang Taiwan sa may pinaka-mabilis at epektibong aksiyon laban sa coronavirus disease o Covid-19. Sa 23 million na populasyon nito, mayroon lamang itong 716 Covid-19 cases habang pito lamang ang namatay.

Dahil umano ito sa mass testing at sa mabilis at epektibong contact tracing.

US will be needing thousands of caregivers

The United States of America will be needing thousands of caregiver for the next decade.  According to Aquilina Soriano Verzosa, Executive Director of Pilipino Workers Center, the aging population of America is one reason why they need caregivers.  She said the baby boomers are in retirement age and every day there are more than 10,000 people turns 65 years old in the country.  She added in the next 13 years, there will be a million caregiver shortage in America.

But one problem for Filipinos to access this job is the "America First Policy" of President Donald Trump which means, jobs should be given first to Americans before the migrant workers.

But according to PWC, Americans don't like caregiving jobs because it is considered as a low-paying job that is why migrant workers fill in.

Another problem they see is the tension in the relationship between US and Philippines due to President Rodrigo Duterte's remarks against America.
