World's Safest And Cheapest Airlines This 2018

The list of safest airlines in the world for 2018 is now out!
 AirlineRatings.com an Australia-based aviation analysis websitehas  released its annual list and out
of the 409 airlines, 20 stand out as the "best of the best," according to AirlineRatings.com's editor-in-chief Geoffrey Thomas.
These 20 airlines from across Asia, Europe and the United States, he says, are "always at the forefront of safety innovation, operational excellence and the launching of new more advanced aircraft."
From 2014 to 2017, AirlineRatings.com named Australian airline Qantas the world's safest airline, and once again AirlineRatings.com has commended it for being "the lead airline in virtually every major operational safety advancement over the past 60 years" without a single fatality in the jet era.


"But Qantas is not alone," says Thomas. "Long-established airlines such as Hawaiian and Finnair have perfect records in the jet era."

This year, AirlineRatings.com has decided to honor the top 20 airlines on equal footing.
The top 20 for 2018, in alphabetical order are:
Air New Zealand

 Alaska Airlines

All Nippon Airways
 

British Airways

 Cathay Pacific Airways

Emirates

 Etihad Airways

 EVA Air 

Finnair 

Hainan Airlines

Hawaiian Airlines

 Japan Airlines

Notably absent from the 2018 list are the US airlines Delta and United. In April 2017, Delta's enviable record of years of reliable service was blotted by a five-day meltdown in which more than 3,200 flights were canceled in response to storms.
In the same month, United Airlines' reputation took a serious battering when a video went viral of a passenger being dragged off an overbooked flight.
New entries on this year's list are Dubai-based Emirates and China's Hainan Airlines.

Meanwhile they also announced the cheapest airlines. Here are they in alphabetical order: 
Aer Lingus, Flybe, Frontier, HK Express, JetBlue, Jetstar Australia, Thomas Cook, Virgin America, Vueling and WestJet.
These airlines all have excellent safety records and, unlike a number of low-cost carriers, they have all passed the stringent International Air Transport Association Operational Safety Audit (IOSA).
Colorado's Frontier Airlines is a new entry on the 2018 list, taking a slot vacated by Singapore's Jetstar Asia.
"Certainly, air travel is safer today than at any time in history but passengers still need to know which are the best of the best," says Thomas.
AirlineRatings.com ranks the airlines using a unique seven-star rating system. The top airlines have all achieved the full seven stars.
Its lowest-rated airlines for 2018, achieving just one star in the rankings, are North Korea's Air Koryo, Suriname's Blue Wing Airlines, Indonesia's Trigana Air Service and Nepal's Buddha Air, Nepal Airlines, Tara Air and Yeti Airlines.

LIST OF ITEMS BANNED ON PLANE & ITEMS NOT ALLOWED TO SEND IN A BALIKBAYAN BOX

As a passenger, it is important that we know what is allowed and not allowed to bring when traveling via an airplane to avoid problems in our travel.

The Department of Transportation and Communication - Office for Transporation Security (DOTC-OTS) released an updated list of items that are not allowed to bring when traveling via airplane.

Memorandum Circular 2015-02 or the Revised Prohibited Items List, applies to all flights originating within the country and adheres to standards set by the International Civil Aviation Organization.

On the other hand, with estimated 10 million Filipinos abroad sending balikbayan boxes home becomes tradition especially for Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs)

But do you know what are the items you are not allowed to send in a balikbayan box?

In case you missed it, here is the list according to cargo companies as well as US and Philippine Customs Office.

• Alcohol/alcoholic drinks
• Automobile/motorcycle, parts or whole
• Ceramic tableware
• Cultural artifacts and pottery
• Defense articles or items with military or proliferation applications
• Products containing dog or cat fur, as well as animal hide
• Drug paraphernalia (unless prescribed for medical conditions)
• Firearms, explosives (including parts)
• Cheese, Meat, fruits and vegetables (unless canned)
• Pets, plants, seeds, soil
• Used clothing of commercial quantity (ukay-ukay or in bales)
• Pornographic materials
• Fluids and perishable food items

Incase of doubt you may check with your trusted balikbayan cargo company for other items that's not on the list.

United Nations Agency Bans Bringing Spare Lithium-Ion Batteries on Airplanes!

Starting April 1, lithium-ion batteries will be restricted in your plane travel especially bringing spare or more of them. Lithium Ion batteries are found in mobile phones and laptops, portable computers and other electronic gadgets. 

|The U.N. aviation agency on Monday prohibited transporting of lithium-ion batteries as cargo on passenger aircraft, following concerns by pilots and plane makers that they are a fire risk. Lithium metal batteries, which are used in watches, have already been banned on passenger planes globally. Lithium metal batteries, used in watches, are not rechargable while lithium-ion batteries, used in cell phones and laptops, can be recharged. 

Reuters report that the International Civil Aviation Organization's 36-state governing council said the prohibition would be in effect as of April 1, and would be maintained until a new fire-resistant packaging standard is designed to transport the batteries. Lithium-ion batteries can still be transported on cargo planes.|

You can bring on your carry on baggage mobile phones and gadgets like MP4's MP3's and tablets as well as other electronic devices less than 100Wh or Watt Hour BUT YOU CANNOT BRING IN CHECKED BAGGAGE EXTRA OR SPARE as per IATA guidelines

You can also  bring medium Lithium batteries like extra battery for laptops, computers, powerbanks, and other electronic devices batteries that are more than 100Wh and not more than 160Wh. Again, YOU CANNOT BRING IN CHECKED BAGGAGE EXTRA OR SPARE as per IATA guidelines

"Power bank must only be carried in hand luggage or carried around. It is not allowed to carry power banks in checked luggage. 3. If the rated power is less than 100WH, power banks can be carried without approval; power banks with the power between 100WH and 160WH can be carried after approval of air carrier."
