The Department of Foreign Affairs has now open online apppointment for Filipinos who wish to apply or renew their passports.

Starting January 2018, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) will be issuing Philippine passports with 10-year validity pursuant to Republic Act 10928 signed by President Rodrigo Duterte.

DFA’s passport appointment system is now operated by state-owned Apo Production Unit, Inc. but the interface has not changed.

The passport fees remain the same: P 950.00 for regular processing (20 working days) and P 1,200.00 for express processing (10 working days).

The following are exempted from securing prior appointment and may enjoy priority lanes at consular offices and satellite offices:
Senior Citizen with Senior Citizen ID
Person with Disability (PWDs) with PWD ID or visible disability
Solo Parent with Valid Solo Parent ID
Pregnant women with medical certificate
Minors seven (7) years old and below

Overseas Filipino workers with supporting documents and proof such as employment contract may walk in at Philippine Overseas Employment Administration in Mandaluyong City.

DFA-ASEANA, Now Process More Than 1,000 Passports A Day

To speed up the passport application processing, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) has added 15 data capture machines in its consular office at ASEANA complex.

The installation of 15 data capture machines happened, two weeks after Secretary Alan Peter Cayetano resumed office as a chief of DFA.

In his visit to DFA-ASEANA Consular office, he said that the office can now process more than 1,000 passports a day.

The machines are big help to shorten the very long queue 

 of passport applicants and those who are there for renewal including Overseas Filipino Workers (OFW).

According to Cayetano, the provision of the additional machine is a big help and expected to increase the "acceptance" capacity of ASEANA Consular Office by 30 percent.

“Mas dadagdagan na namin ang appointments. Hopefully, rather than 3 months, maibababa natin initially to two months or less pa”. Cayetano said.

Aside from acquisition of the said machines, DFA chief laid down other innovative schemes to make the passport application and processing faster, more convenient and more efficient.

Part of the plan is to extend the working hours at the Consular Office in ASEANA to accommodate more applicants by introducing a morning and night shift system.

“We are planning to recruit 40 additional personnel as part of this new work-shift system,” he added.

The DFA is also requesting for the creation of new positions from the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) to hire additional personnel for the plan to add manpower in the regional consular offices.

Aside from this Cayetano said, the DFA is seriously considering the opening of more consular offices in other provinces to decongest the bulk of the applicant serviced in the DFA ASEANA complex.

In ASEANA complex the DFA put up a covered tent with chairs, electric fans, water station and tv to entertain the public while they are waiting for their transaction.

An electronic queuing system with monitors was also installed to guide the clients on the processes and to avoid confusion among them.

Through this, the application process is more convenient and comfortable to the public.

Currently, there are 200 - 300 passport applicant that are waiting for an appointment. Some of this wait up to two months to have online appointment in DFA
