Mob Attacks In Hong Kong Intensifies; Philippine consulate In Hong Kong Warns OFWs

In a city not used to experiencing violence on the streets, a mob attack which injured almost 50 people and instill terror and fear among the people, Hong Kong authorities had arrested 6 individuals with ages range from 24 to 54. They will face charges of "unlawful assembly". The police said that their motives are still under investigation. A possibility of their links to local criminal gangs known as Triads are still being considered.

Protesters have vowed to march in Yuen Long on Sunday to protest the violence. Some of the attackers were wearing face masksand white shirts and armed with wooden poles and steel rods swinging them indiscriminately at any people who were just trying to head home after a busy day.  They went down to the Yuen Long station just before midnight, apparently targeting pro-democracy protester but hitting even the passers by.  They had already fled the scene when the police arrived, leaving blood stains on the platform. Forty-five people were injured, including a man left in critical condition. Thugs suspected of belonging to triad groups beat up protesters during Hong Kong’s 2014 Occupy Central demonstrations, and in an earlier era, they helped 1989 Tiananmen Square activists flee mainland China — all for a price.
