OFWs TO BENEFIT OWWA REBATE PROGRAM, MEDPLUS PROGRAM THIS YEAR

GOV'T PROGRAMS FOR OFW'S

The government is trying its best to provide projects and program for Overseas Filipino Workers (OFW). If you are an OFW you should know your rights, benefits, and programs soon you will be benefited of.

This year there are many changes that the government has implemented and will implement more for OFWs and here is the top five!

OEC is no longer a requirement to all vacationing OFWs to prove that he is an overseas Filipino worker.

All vacationing OFW that eventually will return to the same company or employer is exempted from getting OEC.

But make sure you are registered in Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) data bank or the Balik Manggagawa (BM) Online.

Remember OFWs, OEC is no longer required for re-contract workers.

Membership of an OFW in Overseas Welfare Workers Administration (OWWA) is now up to two years from the former co-terminus with the employment contract.

RA 10801, or OWWA ACT, THE $25 OWWA FEE is NOW VALID FOR 2 YEARS

This means that even if the employment contract is prematurely terminated, OFW can still avail of his benefits from OWWA because of his two-year period membership.

The membership can be renewed at the end of the two-year period.

This is base on the OWWA Act 108001 which was passed last May 31, 2016.

3. OFW REBATE PROGRAM

OFW who regularly contribute to OWWA fund for 10 years can get a rebate from the agency. But this applies only to OFW who has never applied for any benefits from OWWA.

OWWA is still waiting for the Implementing Rules and Regulation (IRR) of this as a guide in the implementation of the Rebate Program.

As simple reminders to OFWs, always keep your records of OWWA membership payments including receipts or any document that will prove your membership to OWWA.

This will serve as proof that you are entitled to Rebate Program.

4. ONE STOP SERVICE CENTER FOR OFWs

Other than the One Stop Service Center for OFWs (OSSCO) on the ground floor of the POEA Building in Ortigas Avenue, every region in the whole country is also mandated to set up their own OSSCO.

This center will cater all the needs of OFWs and aspiring OFWs especially for the processing of all their documentary needs.

A total of 14 government agencies positioned inside the OSSCO.

Among them is Department of Foreign Affairs; National Bureau of Investigation; Social Security System; Pag-IBIG fund; Commission on Higher Education; Overseas Workers’ Welfare Administration; PhilHealth; Professional Regulation Commission; Technical Education, Skills and Development Authority (TESDA); Maritime Industry Authority; and the Bureau of Immigration

This is in line with President Duterte's mandate that all processing of papers of an OFW must be finished within 72 hours or three days.

About 24 million overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) are set to benefit from the supplemental medical assistance program being offered by the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) in cooperation with PhilHealth.

All OFWs who are members of both the OWWA and PhilHealth are eligible for MEDplus. In the said MOU, OWWA will release an amount equivalent to that released by Philhealth. The maximum amount that OWWA can give is P50,000.

Filipinos abroad who wish to avail of MEDplus may send their hospital records to their kin in the Philippines to undergo the same process mentioned above.

MEDplus will be implemented this year.

OWWA And PhilHealth Launches New MEDPLUS Program For OFWs

Another hooray for OFWs for their personal health insurance or public health insurance for their families!
The Vice President for Corporate Affairs Group of

PhilHealth, Dr. Israel Francis Pargas announced the recently launched program for Overseas Filipino Workers - the OWWA ad PHILHEALTH OFW MEDPLUS.

Bandila also reported it here in this video news below.

WHAT IS OFW MedPlus?

OFW MedPlus is a program worked together by OWWA (Overseas

Workers Welfare Administration) and PhilHealth which provides health assistance and medical health benefit for  OFW (Overseas Filipino Worker)  in case they are confined in hospitals abroad.

WHO CAN AVAIL THIS BENEFIT?
Aside from the OFW, this assistance can also be availed by the OFW's qualified dependent/s in the Philippines.
Dr. Pargas further explained, “…it’s a benefit for our active members and PhilHealth members na kung sila ay mao-ospital or maco-confine due to a dreaded disease,[mayroong] on top of [that] na ibibigay ang OWWA as a benefit doon sa ating mga members…This is a 50,000-peso benefit para sa mao-ospital na mga active OWWA and PhilHealth members. So on top of that na binibigay ng PhilHealth, sila ay bibigyan pa rin ng 50,000 [pesos]… although this is for one time financial incentive...”

Requirements For The OFW MedPlus

According to Dr. Pargas, for OFWs to be able to avail the said

benefit, they should qualify to the following:

1. The Overseas Filipino Worker should be an active OWWA and PhilHealth member.

2. The identified illness must be under the category of “dreaded” disease.

3.  The annual benefit limit from PhilHealth hasn’t consumed.

4.   The health care facility where confined is accredited.

Process for Filing Claim Forms

If confined abroad, the Overseas Filipino member should provide

their claim forms (which is also known as PhilHealth Claim Form 1) together with the medical record (or operation record if operation is performed) and Statement of Account. Within 180 days from the date of discharge, it should be sent either via overseas courier or e-mail to the PhilHealth Office or any Local Health Insurance Office nearest to the member.

On  the other hand, if the OFW or his qualified dependent is confined in the Philippines, claim form (PhilHealth Claim Form 1) must be neatly filled out and submitted to the Billing Section of the accredited hospital before the date of  discharged.

Dr. Pargas plainly discussed that the two departments

provided an amount of nearly 150 Million Pesos for this year only. This is favourable to all our OFWs and their families in case of emergency for medical health insurance benefits. Hopefully, this program could help and assist thousands of OFWs across the globe who may have health issues.
