"A lovely Filipino woman who works for me, Corinne, was talking to her friends on Zoom yesterday and she said that all of them are in the NHS. I had no idea. I didn't realise. All of her friends are in the NHS and I asked her 'what do they do?'

She sent me this list and I'm just going to say them because we forget about this extraordinary workforce that comes from all around the world to work for the NHS and I just want to give them a little shout out.

Erin, nurse manager at Guy's Hospital and Nightingale Hospital, Ayesha who is a senior staff nurse at the intensive care unit at Guy's and St Thomas' Hospital which is where Boris Johnson is.

Terifa and Venus, nurses at the infectious diseases team at Northwick Park Hospital. Princess Short who is a nurse at St Mary's Hospital. Louis who is a nurse at Queen Alexander Hospital in Portsmouth and the whole team at Cheston Allergy Department at St Mary's Hospital.

An amazing number of Filipinos work in our NHS and unsung heroes, like so many but I just wanted to give them a shout out right now. Just outstanding care.

It’s worth bearing in mind when we talk about immigrants in this country, these are the immigrants currently saving people's lives. Coming here and actually enriching our country and doing an amazing job. So thank you to all the Filipinos who are here and to every other immigrant who works in the NHS currently and I hope at the end of this we have perhaps a different sentiment and a different feeling about what immigration has done for this country."

Clinic with all Filipino Staff, opens at Abu Dhabi

When we talk about our physical health, it is important to have a doctor or health practitioner that we are comfortable talking about our discomfort or pains. In Abu Dhabi, Overseas Filipino Workers and Filipinos residing in the said city will no longer long for the care of fellow Filipino doctors of nurses.

This is after the launching of Kabayan Clinic, which means, "fellow countryman" by Universal Hospital in which all staff, doctors, and nurses are Filipinos.

The clinic was inaugurated by DFA Secretary Perfecto R. Yasay together with Ambassador of the Philippines to the UAE, Constancio R. Vingo Jr.
The clinic has various facilities and ready to cater different needs including pediatrics, general and internal medicine, dentistry, dermatology, and gynecology according to Dr. Shabeer Nellikode, Founder and Managing Director of Universal Hospital.

Dr. Nellikode said that in the Universal Hospital, they receive an average of 2000 patients each day, of which 10-12 percent are Filipino expats.

Meanwhile, Dr. Anna Marie Diaz, a general practitioner at Universal Hospital said that having a clinic made especially for Filipino community will allow the relationship between doctors and patients to become stronger because “the communication is better.”

“The Filipino expat community is one of the largest in the UAE, so if we provide a clinic with Filipino doctors, we are encouraging them and making them feel at home,” Khaleej Times quoted Dr. Diaz, who has been working in Abu Dhabi for three years, as saying.

Currently, the clinic has two doctors and the hospital is in the process of recruiting more.
