TESDA Emergency Skills Training For Distressed, Displaced and Finished Contract OFWs


The new Emergency Skills Training from Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) which only started this June is for the Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) who are distressed, displaced and who has already finished their contracts abroad.  The OFWs will be trained for various skills like carpentry, masonry, welding, plumbing, heavy equipment operator, heavy equipment mechanic, technical drafting, among the courses which are presently in-demand in the market.  The training will last for a month and the trainees will be issued a certificate from TESDA. To avail of the skills training program, qualified OFWs must present their employment certificate fro their company abroad and the duly accomplished application form  with photo at any TESDA offices near their area or they can visit TESDA website at www.tesda.gov.ph to register.  TESDA aims to assist returning OFWs to find employment or start their own business using the skills they acquired from this program. According to TESDA , about 85 percent of their trainees has either find new jobs locally or abroad or have already started their own business in the country.  Meanwhile, TESDA mentioned the most in-demand courses available on TESDA website which the OFWs can study for free.  Here are the most in-demand courses according to TESDA database:   1. Shielded metal arc welding (course II) - 52,650 enrollees  2. Cookery - 51,083 enrollees  3. Food and beverage service - 50,646 enrollees  4. Bread and pastry production - 47,728 enrollees  5.
