NAIA's SOLUTION TO TANIM-BALA: TRASH BINS and with AUDIO VIDEO CCTV's in INTERROGATION ROOMS.

"To avoid incidents such as "tanim bala" (bullet planting), airport authorities will soon put up final check disposal booths where passengers can throw away prohibited items before they go through X-ray screening.

But unlike usual trash bins inside airports, Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) plans to put up these special bins outside the terminal where passengers line up.

MIAA spokesperson Dave de Castro said on Friday (November 13) that airport authorities were looking at two to three of these booths at every Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) terminal, and each booth would be enclosed for passenger privacy.

"We will not be questioning passengers after they drop certain items," De Castro said.

Passengers can enter the booth one at a time, and once they throw away the item, it can no longer be recovered."

via Inquirer News: “Another innovation is the setup at Naia of interrogation rooms with full audio and video recording so everything that is happening inside is transparent,” Guerzon told the Inquirer.

The rooms will be placed past the initial X-ray scanners so when a bullet is still found in a passenger’s baggage, even after all the reminders and the last look booths, the security cameras can prevent any “shady transaction.”

“Everything will be recorded so we can prevent any possible extortion activity from happening. It will also discourage a bullet-carrier from making false claims or trying to bribe law enforcement agents,” he pointed out.

All these, Guerzon said, might be in place by next week in time for the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit."

To give passengers a chance to empty their bags of items banned in the airport and on airplanes, booths with disposal bins will be set up starting next week at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA).

Two or three “last look” booths will be put up in each of the four NAIA terminals apart from the signage and TV monitors repeatedly playing English and Filipino reminders on prohibited items.

According to Vicente Guerzon Jr., senior assistant general manager of the Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA),  the booths will be set up at the entrance queuing areas of the terminals. This would give passengers the opportunity to ditch items prohibited at the airport and on the aircraft before they pass through NAIA’s initial security screening checkpoints, Guerzon explained.

Guerzon said that boxes for SPI (security prohibited items) or simply disposal bins would be placed in each booth so passengers or even airport visitors could get rid of things, including bullets either used as talismans or souvenirs, that could cause their being detained or held for questioning by the police.

“The booths will afford passengers privacy so if they intend to dispose of something that might cause them embarrassment, they will be protected,” the MIAA official told the Philippine Daily Inquirer, adding that a passenger would not be questioned on the item he or she got rid of.

The setup of the booths, he said, would complement the MIAA’s enhanced awareness campaign on prohibited items.  The airport authority will place large tarpaulin signage in all terminal entrances and install TV monitors explaining in detail and showing items that must not be placed in both handcarry and checked-in luggage.

“So before they go through the x-ray scanners, they are already made aware of the prohibited items. Knowing this, they can already use the ‘last look’ booths to get rid of whatever banned thing they have with them,” Guerzon explained.

The TV monitors will repeatedly show prohibited items and will have a voice over or writing in both English and Filipino “so it is easily understood.” Tarpaulin signage will also have English and Filipino versions.

American missionary Lane Michael White cries for justice.
He narrated the trauma they experienced because of the incident. "I felt betrayed. We came here to help the people...And then they did this to us," said Lane.
 He said he will never forget how he was treated by the security screener Maria Elma Ceña and Marvin Garcia. "... She screamed at me...They wouldn't let me touch the bag and told me to stand back. So I don't think that's their procedure. I think they should ask me if they can get into the bag... they didn't do that." He said SPO2 Rolando Clarin acted mad and kept insisting that he just pay Php 30,000 so he doesn't have to go through court and that he could possibly be thrown in jail. 
Their family is hoping that they will be the key to the investigation to stop the tanim bala scam and that they would be given justice.

Lane Michael White still has hold departure order and cannot come back to his home country until his case gets cleared. "I pray for the case to be dismissed, so I can go home," he added.

Duterte made an appeal to President Benigno C. Aquino III last Monday to make drastic moves to solve the problem, saying that he never asked for any favor in exchange for his support, except this one.

He also said that the President must relieve all officials and employees connected to the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) and the aviation command including also the porter services and drivers.

Duterte said only a conspiracy with porters, drivers, and airport authorities can create such a situation.

On the other news, White, an American apprehended and was jailed for 5 days will use the video that they took with the screening officer and PNP aviation security group asking P30,000 in extortion money to dismiss the case. Watch the video here. 

Acosta also advised overseas Filipino workers and other travelers to contact the PAO in case they get victimized by the alleged laglag-bala scheme at the airport.

4 Filipina Caught In Hongkong, Victim of Drug Syndicate?

Four Filipina, one of which is a dentist, were caught with 2.5 kilo of cocaine in Hongkong. The suspects are claiming they are only victim of syndicate that offered free tour and Php 35,000 cash.

The bags they were using are also given to them by the group (syndicate).

According to the records of Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency  this was not the first time that the group traveled to Hongkong.
