MANILA, Philippines — KALIWA'T kanan ngayon ang panawagan ng iba't-ibang grupo na huwag munang ituloy ang pagtaas ng kontribusyon ng Social Security System o SSS.
Una nang inihayag ng SSS na ipapatupad simula Enero 2021 ang contribution hike.
Kaugnay nito nanawagan si Senator Richard Gordon sa SSS na mag-sumite ng proposal sa Senado kung paano masuspindi ang implementasyon ng 2021 contribution increase na hindi nalalagay sa panganib ang buhay ng pension fund.

Ayon kay Gordon, kailangan man at naaayon sa batas ang pagtataas ng SSS contribution ngayong 2021 ngunit hindi umano ito naaangkop sa ngayon lalo na't maraming mga negosyo ang nalugi dahil sa pandemya.
“While there is a need and the law mandates an increase in SSS contributions in 2021, we see that this is untimely, especially at a time when businesses are down,”
“When RA 11199 was enacted, our lawmakers did not have an inkling that a pandemic would occur and greatly affect our economy,” ang naging pahayag ni Sen. Richard Gordon.
“It’s only halfway through the year and this is already higher than the 2021 budget of PHP4.5 trillion. We need to balance the interest of the people who are greatly affected by the pandemic, as well and the interest to protect the funds of the SSS),” dagdag ni Gordon.
Ngunit inako din ng senador na mahirap pigilan ang 2021 contribution hike ng SSS dahil mangangailangan ito ng bagong batas dahil napapaloob sa RA 11199 o Social Security Act of 2018 ang pagtataas ng kontribusyon.

Sa ilalim umano ng batas, wala din umanong probisyon na nagbibigay kapangyarihan sa SSS na pigilan ang increase.
“We will discuss this at the committee and if necessary, we will craft a new law to make it easy for the people to get through the pandemic while continuing to pay their SSS contributions,” pagtatapos ni Gordon.
Samantala, maliban kay Gordon, nanawagan din sa gobyerno ang Gabriela Women’s partylist at ang Federation of Free Workers (FFW) na suspendihin ang implementasyon ng contribution hike ng SSS at ng PhilHealth na kapwa magsisimula ngayong Enero.
Ayon sa nabanggit na labor at partylish organization, hindi pa naka-ahon sa epekto ng pandemya dahil sa Covid-19 ang mga manggagawa at hindi umano ito napapanahon.
Dahil dito, nanawagan si House Assistant Minority Leader Rep. Arlene Brosas kay Pangulong Duterte na suspendihin ang contribution hike ng PhilHealth at SSS.
“The President can order the suspension of the hikes in the same way that overseas workers were spared from the collection of PhilHealth premium even without amendments to the Universal Healthcare (UHC) Law,”
“We cannot just insist on the implementation of the law when corruption still mars the agency and when the majority of our workers are still struggling to make ends meet amid the pandemic and crisis,” ang naging pahayag ni Brosas.
Kinikwestiyon din nito ang SSS kung bakit tila ipinapasa sa ng SSS mga manggagawa ang mga subsidiyang kanilang ibinibigay sa kanilang mga miyembro.
