OFW Locked Up In A Stockroom In Jeddah, Now Rescued

An Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW) who is a native of Bago City, Negros Occidental was rescued after she was allegedly locked inside the stockroom in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia for several days by her employers. This was relayed by the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) to Anita Cauntoy, mother of 27-year old Edrelyn.
Embassy officials and representatives from Edrelyn’s Manila-based agency facilitated her release, through the assistance of her employers'  parent . Edrelyn was then brought to Dammam, where judicial and administrative bodies of the province, as well as several government departments, are located in the city.

She will be placed under the custody of the authorities to process her exit Visa so that she can return to the Philippines as soon as possible. “They will try to finish the processing of the needed documents within the week,” Cauntoy said. Cauntoy said she was able to talk to her daughter early yesterday, adding that Edrelyn said she was already okay and safe. Early this week, Edrelyn's family sought help from the authorities after learning through her video posted on Facebook that she was allegedly locked up after her employer discovered that her Saudi Arabian identity card was already expired. She also shared that she was not able to eat for a week because she was only given noodles by her employers. The uploaded video went viral. Edrelyn, who was working for almost two years in the Middle East as a domestic helper, posted on Facebook yesterday that she is now safe. She also thanked those who helped her.
