Video: DENR Secretary Gina Lopez Gets Emotional for Overwhelming Supports, Criticisms

Department of Environment and Natural Resources Secretary Gina Lopez became emotional in a video she posted in her facebook wall as she mentioned her critics as well as the people who wholeheartedly support her in her advocacy. With her confirmation being opposed by different groups and mining giants branding her as biased against big players, the overwhelming support from different entities flood social media with a call to Commission on Appointment for the confirmation of the DENR Secretary. Supporters of Sec. Gina Lopez are invited to sign the petition for her confirmation at change.org. In her video, she mentioned that her advocacy is not about herself nor for the mining companies but about the Filipino people and their right for life. The video is almost 11 minutes in length and sound may not be well audible but we transcribed it to provide you a full text of it for you to know what it is about. Please read it and let us know your opinion in the comments below. Sec. Gina Lopez video Transcription: "Hello! Today is a Wednesday and it's in the morning. I just finished meditation and I'm very calm and peaceful. So, I wanna be able to share with you some things because my day gets really busy and parang minsan napi-feel ko parang nasa giyera ako, like things are being hurled at me in all directions and ok lang kung totoo pero karamihan hindi naman totoo, parang talagang ,you know, what they would call, below the belt. So what I would like to say again is number 1, we follow due process every step of the way and actually the law and the mining law, protects the rights of people. Walang dapat magagawa at walang dapat mangyayari na nadadamay ang buhay ng present at future generation. Number 2, nobody's gonna loose their job because sa ngayon, hindi naman sila nagtatrabaho ngayon, wala naman silang trabaho. Yung mina ay hindi yan araw-araw. At kung sino man diyan , if the mining does close and hindi pa sarado ngayon, aalagaan sila. Sa ngayon , may teams ang DENR sa lahat ng Regions na baka masarado yung mina at nagpa-planning together with the community, together with the displaced mine workers, together with the farmers and the fishermen, kung ano ang pwedeng gawin na may pakinabang ang lahat. That's the kind of economy we want. Wala ..some may..., merong ilan na may pakinabang, may kita sila tapos yung iba nagdudusa, hindi naman tama yan, di ba? It's not good at all. So by this week, we'll gonna have a good plan and this will include inputs from department of tourism, from DSWD, na tutulong din sila, from the DOST, to grant technology how we can bring these people's lives up, and even TESDA. Ang kinabukasan ay masyadong maliwanag kung sana'y di masyadong wawasakin ang kalikasan. If you kill your air, you kill your water, you kill everything, everything. It's just not worth it at all. We need a world where everyone can live well, in love, and life, and we can make that happen. Next, DENR has the money to make it happen. For the CARAGA Region alone I have P3 billion and that doesn't include government money of the other departments. we can make a better world in a very short span of time. There's this mining in this areas for so very long at hanggang ngayon, marami pang nagdudusa. bakit di magsubok ng isang, you know, another way. Why can't we try another way? Yes. The next thing is this, for my detractors: Stop it already. I mean, if you gonna fight at least fight clean. For example, Inquirer puts headlines which are not even true, Manila Standard puts things which are not even true, I mean, play the game well.I mean if you think that what I'm doing is not right, at least tell the truth. Anyway, and for the people that have been supporting and sending great messages of encouraging thoughts and energy: I wanna tell you from my deepest, deepest heart, mahal na mahal na mahal ko kayong lahat. [cries] I really love you and I feel you. And alam ko na pwedeng pwedeng pwede, isang bansa na sana wala nang mahirap. At sana, sana nagmamahalan. Pwedeng pwedeng pwede. And when I listen to all of you, hmm.. di dapat ako umiyak dito ah.., but when I listen to all of you, I know what can happen and this is for everyone, I mean the business sector I was in Rotary Makati yesterday, ay nako, sobrang bait nila even the wives of the businessmen went well , I mean there's goodness everywhere. Just a few businessmen are sobrang greedy, hindi naman nila kailangan yung pera.Tama na, no? Bakit wawasakin yung tubig ng komunidad, ang dami na nilang pera, tama na. I mean you don't need to make money that way, and if ever the mining places that might be closed, you can make money in other ways. Kailangan mo yung pera para mabuhay. Tama na no? I mean, but people need water to live. You know, yung tubig kailangan yan sa buhay. How can you mine naman in a watershed, Diyos ko naman.. And then aawayin mo ako kasi I cancel, I want to cancel contracts na imi-mina yung watershed? Mawawala yung tubig ng komunidad eh ano yung buhay nila?Kayo marami na kayong...you already have so much money. Why will you want to destroy the lives of people so you make more money. And to the mining company, you talk about contracts, how about our contract to life? I have every right and it is by duty and obligation to review contracts in the light of the common good. Yan ang tungkulin ng pamahalaan, tingnan kung anong kontrata na para sa pakinabang ng lahat and then if we see that the contract is made na madadamay ang komunidad, its our duty and responsibility to help them. Itong trabaho, masyadong mahirap. Oh my God. Kasi, uhm, yeah. Anyway, when I took on this job, it is my determination that I keep my spiritual self intact and I must see that it hasn't been easy especially with the negativity hurled in all my way, and , tapos hindi pa totoo, tapos grabeng hindi pa totoo, grabe naman, no? I mean it's like, yeah, but don't peoples lives count? This is not about Gina Lopez and the mining company, it's about the Filipino people, don't we have a right to life? And for the people there that were working in the mines sites, are you open to the possibility na pwedeng bubuti pa ang buhay ninyo? I mean are you comfortable that you are working there na maraming taong nadadamay kasi yan ang nangyayari. For many, many years, may mga tao na , yes may trabaho kayo pero ang dami-daming magsasaka, mangingisda na nadadamay, ano yung buhay nila? Hindi ba importante din yan? Yung anak nila? I mean sa Marinduque, the children are suffering from brain disease, 17 years na, ano pa yung buhay nila? Anyway, I wanted to talk sana while I'm still quiet, sana kasi when the day goes minsan nagiging hyper ako so now just after meditation I wanna let you know all that God loves you all very much, and even the miners. But you have to let God shine, and raping the environment is not the way to go. And to the people that are supportive of the environment, I wanna let you know that keep the light shining in your hearts. And lastly, I wanna say we must care enough, we must love enough , to do, to make things happen and we can give this country a much better future it deserves. Ok, let love reign and let greed and selfishness sana be transformed into something more benevolent. Mabuhay kayong lahat! Thank you!
