HAVE YOU SEEN THE NEW PHILIPPINES PASSPORT AND ONE OF THE SAFEST PASSPORT IN THE WORLD?

Via Jobstreet"All Philippine passports are now integrated with chips that contain the data of the holder. These new passports are called ePassports. The ePassport is a global standard in travel documents, and as a member of International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), the Philippines is required to adhere to their standards.

The chip embedded in the ePassport contains data essential in verifying the identity of the passport holder. It contains data on the personal information found on the data page of the passport, the biometrics of the passport holder, the unique chip identification number and a digital signature to verify the authenticity of the data stored on the chip. This technology allows the information stored in an ePassport to be read by special chip readers at a close distance, such as the scanners used in immigration counters."

“A world class passport that would deserve the respect and recognition, of course, by all other governments,” said DFA Ambassador Libran Cabactulan in an ABSCBN report. “It will really enhance the image of the Filipino because they will now be carrying passports that I would say nearly impossible to fake, to be compromised.”
Enhanced security features include an embedded chip containing biometric information used to authenticate the identity of the traveler, including a photo, fingerprints, and signature.

“It will establish a one-to-one correspondence between the document and yourself,” he said. “In other words, it will establish beyond doubt that you are the person alleged to be holding this passport.”
The chip has provisions to accept additional information that may be required in the future.
Cabactulan said while each page of the new passport tells a story about the Philippines, these designs are part of its new security measures as well.
“It will have some educational objective as well,” he said. “There will be lines and colors and combinations here that I cannot even tell you because that’s part of the security.”

Bureau of Immigration chief Siegfred Mison said the e-counter will not only help expedite the basic immigration passenger profiling and documents verification but will also shorten the queues for departing and arriving passengers.

Mison said the e- counter will eventually be linked with the records database of Interpol, National Bureau of immigration and the Department of Justice for easy verification of all incoming or outgoing passengers.

"The e-counter will help ease the queueing but it will also serve as the direct link to our counterpart with local and international enforcement and effective border control," Mison said.

Department of Justice Assistant Secretary Guillermo Sy also hailed the project.
"Technology is at hand and just like the application of an ATM card, any passenger can directly use the e- counter with utmost convenience," Sy said
Sy added that some 500 units will be installed at the NAIA terminals 1, 2, and 3. These are expected to address the lack of immigration personnel.
