Philippine Government To Shoulder Fees/Airfare Of OFWs Availing UAE Amnesty

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) government is set to give amnesty to the expatriates residing in their country with illegal residency status giving them a chance to leave the country or correct their residence status and stay working. The Philippine Embassy and consulate in the UAE are ready to give assistance to its nationals in availing the amnesty offered by the Emirates.

The said announcement was coursed through the Philippine Embassy and the Philippine Consulate.    In a post from the Facebook page of the Philippine Embassy in the UAE, the financial assistance will only be provided for those who will be going home: “Assistance will cover for payment of exit passes, fees for absconding lifting, and airfare to the Philippines.”      A post from Consul General Paul Raymund Cortes wishes to clarify that only those with Overstaying and Absconding cases will be assisted for repatriation: “(The amnesty) does not cover those with police cases. (bank loans, baby cases, etc.)”.    OFWs who will choose to have their status rectified to stay within the UAE will have to head directly to the assigned immigration centers with their passports in tow.  Consul General Paul Raymund Cortes also clarified that only those with overstaying and absconding cases will be assisted for repatriation and does not include OFWs with police cases. 

OFWs who will choose to stay in the Emirates must have their status corrected. To do this, they need to go directly to the assigned immigration centers with their passports.
