Where and How To Pay OWWA Insurance and Verify Membership Validity?



OWWA membership is an accident and health and life insurance for overseas Filipinos and it is valid for two years from the date of payment. So, to determine that your membership is still valid, check your OEC or your OWWA Balik Manggagawa Slip and check the date. China's plans to hire Filipino household workers to their five major cities including Beijing and Shanghai, was reported at a local newspaper Philippine Star. it could be a big break for the household workers who are trying their luck in finding greener pastures by working overseas  China is offering up to P100,000  a month, or about HK$15,000. The existing minimum allowable wage for a foreign domestic helper in Hong Kong is  around HK$4,310 per month.  Dominador Say, undersecretary of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), said that talks are underway with Chinese embassy officials on this possibility. China’s five major cities, including Beijing, Shanghai and Xiamen will soon be the haven for Filipino domestic workers who are seeking higher income. President Rodrigo Duterte signed the Executive Order 26 with the citizens health in mind. Presidential Spokesperson Ernesto Abella said the executive order is a milestone where the government prioritize public health protection.    The smoking ban includes smoking in places such as  schools, universities and colleges, playgrounds, restaurants and food preparation areas, basketball courts, stairwells, health centers, clinics, public and private hospitals, hotels, malls, elevators, taxis, buses, public utility jeepneys, ships, tricycles, trains, airplanes, and  gas stations which are prone to combustion. The Department of Health  urges all the establishments to post "no smoking" signs in compliance with the new executive order. How To PAY for OWWA Insurance Membership

1. Go to your nearest EMBASSY, CONSULATE or MISSION and pay for your OWWA amounting to P1300 or $25.

2. In the Philippines, you can go to the nearest OWWA National and Regional offices or One Stop Service Centers at MALLS or at this 15 locations and pay for your OWWA insurance membership.

3. There are also payment centers at the airports, inquire in your nearest area.

Overseas  Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) is the branch of the government that handle OFW concerns safeguarding the welfare of their members here and abroad. To enjoy the benefits from OWWA, an OFW must be an active member, meaning, you need to renew your membership every two years. Payments are usually done at the POEA while securing an OEC  or can be also done abroad at the embassy offices of their host countries. Every OFW must be an OWWA member because it is impossible for every OFW to leave the country without the approval of the POEA and securing  OWWA membership is one of the pre-requisites in order for an OFW to be able to leave the country. An active member can enjoy OWWA benefits like availing loans, TESDA scholarship, livelihood and entrepreneurship seminars and other reintegration programs for returning OFWs. The 90-day amnesty allows those who has problems with labor or residency to correct their status or go home if they wish to without the risk of  detention or paying fines.  Atty. Cesar Chavez, officer-in-charge Overseas Workers Welfare Administration's Repatriation and Assistance Division, said the government shouldered their airfare from Saudi Arabia and they will also take care of their transportation if they need to travel from Manila to their provinces. The government will also provide reintegration services or livelihood programs for them to start a new life in the country. Because of the amnesty program, they no longer need to pay fines or face any charges regarding their residency or labor violations. Ofws who returned home under the amnesty program can also go back to saudi to work  anytime if they wish to. In the usual practice, any expat who had been deported for violation in the kingdom will be blacklisted and will not be allowed to come back or work in their country. Such punishment has been waived under the existing amnesty program. During President rodrigo Duterte's visit in Saudi Arabia, he said that he will bring 250 undocumented OFWs with him when he return to the Philippines.  DOLE Secretary Silvestre Bello III also said that since the announcement of the 90-day amnesty, they already sent an augmentation team to assist the undocumented OFWs who want to avail the program by helping them in complying with the documents they need. When the claims are already verified, the Philippine government through OWWA is willing to give the money claims in advance to the claimants. Recent retrenchment in Saudi Arabia due to oil price crisis had affected more than 11,000 OFWs left stranded without getting their salary for months as well as their indemnities, five thousand of them had already gone home without receiving a single halala. The campaign on illegal drugs has somehow made a statement among the drug pushers and addicts.
