In this article, we will find out what causes diabetes and what this disease actually do to our body. Carbohydrates when ingested to the stomach are broken down to glucose or sugar. glucose is needed by our body to supply us the energy we need. These glucose then move to the bloodstream. the body detects that the blood glucose number is rising. The pancreas then starts releasing the hormone called insulin. In type 1 diabetes which about 10% of diabetes cases, the pancreas do not produce insulin at all due to unknown condition. The glucose that is taken by the body through bloodstream is not properly delivered to the muscle cells due to lack of insulin and starts building up in the blood elevating the blood sugar lever. The body is trying to eliminate the excess glucose through urination, hence, people with diabetes tend to urinate a lot. The condition could be reversed once the patient is treated with insulin. Type 2 diabetes is different. On this type which 90% of people with diabetes has which commonly affects people with ages 40 and above for western people and 25 above for Asians. The symptoms are very minimal that it may take 5 or even 10 years before the person could feel its effects in the body and they could live seemingly normal before the diagnosis. On this type, the pancreas is producing enough insulin but the cells are not able to supply to the muscle cells due to fat build-up. it blocks the insulin and causes high concentration of glucose in the blood. It can be corrected through weight loss and healty diet. Medications can also help but it is a lengthy process and medicines are quite expensive as it is a progressive condition.
