An overstaying OFW in Qatar cannot contain her happiness and shed tears of joy after President Rodrigo Duterte promised to pay off her debts that ballooned to P1.3 million pesos so that she and her child can return to the Philippines.

It all happened in the pilot episode of Duterte's television show last May 19, Mula sa Masa, Para sa Masa.

According to Nancy Aransanzo, she has been stranded in Qatar for 13 years now after his contract was terminated by her employer.

To make ends meet, she and her 10-year-old daughter Angela sells rice cakes and sleep in prayer meeting venues.

Nancy said, she was once a working legally in Qatar, but her contract was terminated after she refused to put up an illegal recruitment agency.

When they decide to return to the Philippines, they were prevented because she needs to pay 96,000 Qatari Riyal or around P1.3 million for clearance.

"Pagpunta po namin sa deportation, hindi po kami tinanggap kasi kailangan po daw, meron kaming clearance pa na babayaran tungkol sa bahay namin na dati pa. Pero hindi po namin alam kung paano naging 96,000 Riyal po yun, walang ibabayad talaga," she said.

Upon hearing the plea of Nancy, Duterte promised to help Aransazo and her daughter.

"Punta kayo sa embassy natin, babayaran ko yung utang ninyo, at bigyan kayo ng travel documents," Duterte said.

With this Duterte also asked the Department of Foreign Affairs to look into the acts of injustices committed on OFWs.

“If we have time, I will personally ask the Foreign Affairs department to give more focus on the acts of injustices and we will do the necessary things to help you,” Duterte said.

Around 140 OFWs who availed amnesty returned to the Philippines with Duterte from his state visit to the Middle East.
