SOME HOSPITALS IN SAUDI, BANS TAKING PICTURES





Taking pictures on the hospital premises is no longer allowed in some hospitals in Saudi Arabia.

This is according to the new regulation in line with the increasing phenomenon of snapping pictures inside the health facilities with a purpose of publishing them on social media with the intent to defame the facility or point out faults.

In King Khalid Eye Specialty Hospital in Riyadh, there are signs that gives warning to anyone caught taking pictures with a penalty of confiscation of devices or face police action.

But according to Anti-Information Technology Crime Law the penalty in taking pictures of in hospital premises includes:

Minor Offense - One year imprisonment and maximum fine of SR500,000

More Serious Offenses -10 Years in Jail and fine of SR5 million




Meanwhile, The Makkah Health Department is conducting and ongoing investigation regarding the case of female official at a hospital who violated the regulations by taking a selfie inside an operating theater while a team doctors was involved in surgery.

Director-General of Makkah Health Affairs Dr. Mustafa Baljon said, this is a violation of the law and necessary punitive measures would be taken against her.


Mobile phones with camera are now banned in:
  • Intensive Care Unit (ICU)
  • Operating Rooms
  • Delivery Rooms


Taking pictures is only allowed when:

1. You have a prior permission from the hospital authorities

2. Your picture will be used for medical, research or educational purposes.

3. You should maintain the privacy and secrecy of the patient

4. You will not film the body of the patient while undergoing a medical procedure.

Some government bodies, including the Ministry of Education, have announced similar decisions that prevent photography inside facilities unless they have an official permit.
