MENTALLY ILL OFW,EXEMPTED FROM DEATH SENTENCE BY SAUDI PENAL COURT

Anxiety attack is an alarming condition that some of the OFWs working abroad are experiencing and its the sad  reality. Most of it are resulting from severe homesickness and too much thinking about their families back home.

An OFW who has been sentenced of death penalty  has been exempted from execution after the court of appeals reviewed his case and proven to be suffering from schizophrenia-a mental  disorder that may result in some combination of hallucinations, delusions, and extremely disordered thinking and behavior.
The OFW named "Rino",was involved in a road accident that killed 4 people  reportedly happened 8 years ago in Al-Khaldiyah District North of Jeddah,KSA.

“The Penal Court reported the incident took place at dawn when Rino woke up and walked out of his room at the Saudi Airline’s worker’s residence in Al-Khaldiyah District north of Jeddah. He had in his hand a hammer and a screw driver and stalked angrily towards a worker in the parking lot,” according to reports.

The victims were identified as Saad Al-Qarni, Aidhah Al-Amry, Almah Al-Amry and Waheed Mayat.
He was initially given a death sentence for the murder of the 4 victims and paying SAR250,000 as compensation for the damages. But,the Court of Appeals later repealed the sentence based on the grounds of his mental condition and the Supreme court will be reviewing the case again.

Rino, however confessed that he began anxiety over his family in the Philippines and started to hear voices around him.He grabbed a hammer and a screwdriver to protect himself and went to a room to confront the "voices" then everything that happened followed spontaniously including taking over the bus and expending four lives until he got arrested by the authorities.
Taif Mental Hospital has confirmed his condition and the Judicial Committee decided to mitigate the criminal responsibility on the said OFW.He will be then detained with medical and psychological care instead.
