FREE MAINTENANCE MEDICATION FOR DIABETES AND HYPERTENSION FROM DOH The Department of Health is giving free maintenance medicines (Losartan,Amlodipine,Metoprolol and Metformin) for hypertensive and diabetic patients.It is a part of the Department of Health's Hypertension and Diabetes Club which started last January 2016.You need to sign up for the club and after a consultation with a doctor,you will receive free maintenance medicine. At the launch of the REGALO organ donation campaign at the National Kidney Institute,Dr. Romina Danguilan stated that the primary causes of kidney failure points to lifestyle diseases,particularly hypertension and diabetes.These two diseases often lead to renal failure to patients with ages 50 and above."We also focus on prevention",she added. Kidney Foundation of the Philippines Executive Directress Dr. Remedios Uriarte said that fear and stigma that comes from being misinformed makes the public hesitant to be organ donors. Nearly fourty thousand people are currently undergoing dialysis and there are not enough kidney donations being made,according to  Dr.Danguilan. The NKTI advised the public to take advantage of these free medication provided by the DOH in health centers to prevent kidney failure. President Rodrigo Duterte signed the Executive Order 26 with the citizens health in mind. Presidential Spokesperson Ernesto Abella said the executive order is a milestone where the government prioritize public health protection.    The smoking ban includes smoking in places such as  schools, universities and colleges, playgrounds, restaurants and food preparation areas, basketball courts, stairwells, health centers, clinics, public and private hospitals, hotels, malls, elevators, taxis, buses, public utility jeepneys, ships, tricycles, trains, airplanes, and  gas stations which are prone to combustion. The Department of Health  urges all the establishments to post "no smoking" signs in compliance with the new executive order. They also appeal to the public to report any violation against the nationwide ban on smoking in public places.
